- Mary Ethel Clabaugh was born in Winnebago township on February 16, 1889. She grew to womanhood in this neighborhood and was educated in the Winnebago schools. She was married on December 15, 1908, to Carroll W. Franklin. To this union one son was born, John Clabaugh, aged three years. Mrs. Franklin had a sweet and loving disposition. She was naturally of a kind, cheerful and hopeful temperament and she fitted in the life of the home in which she lived in a remarkable manner. She lived a blameless life at all times and during the tedious months of her illness, her Savior was very precious to her. He held communion with her during all her waking hours. Her life, both in health and in sickness, was a benediction to all who felt its precious influence. Everyone who visited her during the months of her illness must have felt and known that she was strengthened and upheld by the power of her Heavenly Father and in her He wrought His Divine will. She was taken sick with pneumonia on June 11, 1913, which later developed into tuberculosis, from which she died at 6 o'clock on the evening of January 2, 1914. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss, the husband and son, a mother, two sisters and two brothers, besides a large circle of other relatives and friends. Her father preceded her to the Kingdom of the Blessed Dead in October, 1893. The funeral was held at Basey church on Sunday, January 4th, Rev. H. F. Ackerman officiating. Interment was made in the Basey Cemetery. 'We come to Thee for comfort, thou blessed Lamb of God. Although our hearts are bleeding, we kiss the chastening rod. How very much we miss her, no words of ours can tell, but we say in meek submission, He doeth all things well.
