Leander Christian Wagler passed peacefully in his 93rd year, and is now reunited with his beloved wife Beatrice, who predeceased him in June 2000. He is lovingly remembered by
his children, Karen Wirth (Mike), Nancy Lebold (Bob), Wanda Wagler-Martin (Fred), Sheila Martin (Quentin) & Mark Wagler (Angela), 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his great grandson, Justin Hovius.
Leander was born in East Zorra township, to Joseph and Druscilla Mae (Ruby) Wagler, and lived there his entire life. His early employment years included working on the railroad, carpentry and serving as church janitor. During his many years as dairy farmer, he was dedicated to sound farming practices and to respectful stewardship of the land. His faith was central in his life and he served in many roles within the East Zorra Mennonite Church. In his retirement he deeply valued the opportunity to volunteer with hospice.
He is survived by his siblings, Delphine Zehr (Lorne), Cecil Wagler (Reta), Herb Wagler (Shirley), Marlene Schwartzentruber (Edward), Keith Wagler (Ruth). Also, by his in-laws, Wallace Roth, Laura Ann Wagler, Debbie Yantzi, Loraine Bender, Mary Jane Yantzi, and Katie Ann Schumm (Clare). Predeceased by siblings and in-laws, Doris Kropf (Seranus), Bernice Brenneman (Floyd), Betty Roth, Lester Wagler, Glenn Yantzi (Muriel), Howard Bender, and Clair Yantzi.
The family expresses gratitude for the kindness and care provided by the dedicated staff at the Maples Retirement Home, where Leander lived for the past 8 years. Appreciation is also noted for the exceptional nursing care provided at the Woodstock Hospital in his final days.
Friends and family are invited to the Francis Funeral Home, Tavistock, on Tuesday July 5, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Guests are encouraged to wear a mask for the visitation. The funeral service will take place at the East Zorra Mennonite Church, 16th line, on Wednesday July 6 at 11:00, with pastor, Lloyd Oakey officiating.
