- Mary Ann Sims
1918 - 2010
On the 4th of July 1918, Mary Ann Sims was born to Sam and Etta Ringler in Kalispel, Montana. As a little girl the family moved several times before settling in the Sheridan and Willamina area, where she completed her education in the Sheridan school system.
In her later years, Mary Ann would laughingly say that the whole United States celebrated her birthday! As a young girl she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. Mary Ann and her family attended the Sheridan Mennonite Church, where she met and on April 20, 1941, married Troy Sims. Mary Ann and Troy made their first home in Otis, Oregon. Over the next few years they moved often before settling in their home on Fort Hill Road in Willamina.
Mary Ann and Troy were blessed with four children, three daughters and one son. Mary Ann often said that some of the best years of her life were spent raising her young children.
Mary Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. They raised their children while attending the Church in the Wildwood of Grand Ronde. She was very involved in the church activities, some of which included the Ladies sewing circle and Bible School. Mary Ann and Troy later attended the Church of the Nazarene, in Grand Ronde. She had a deep Faith in the Lord and was a praying woman until the day she died. Mary Ann was ready and anxious to meet her Lord, in her last years often saying she just wanted to go "home". Her prayers were answered on February 25, 2010.
Later on, Mary Ann enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was very involved in their lives and spent many patient hours teaching crochet and sewing. She made countless batches of "play dough" which she never seemed to mind that it ended up all over her kitchen. She was generous with her time and talent in making each one of her children and grandchildren a comforter.
On April 20th 1991, Mary Ann and Troy celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They had six more years together prior to Troy passing in November of 1997.
Mary Ann is survived by her son, Steve and his wife Sandy, of Willamina; two daughters, Sharon Byers and her husband Del, of Vanderhoof, B.C. Canada, and Fran Yoder and her husband Tim, of Aurora, CO; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and her sister Vera Schrock of Salem, OR.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy; her daughter Delores Stoll, 2 son-in-laws Ron Stoll and Wilbur Hostetler, her grandson, Rick Stoll and two of her sisters Evelyn Shenk and Alma Fry.
