- A. H. TYSON PASSES AWAY
Came To Lansdale From Harleysville 35 Years
Ago and Has Been Identified With Business Interests Ever Since - Son, In France, And Daughter Survive
Allen Heckler Tyson died Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home on North Broad street, death being due to uremic poisoning. He had been suffering from the disease for some weeks and had been, except for rare intervals, confined to his bed since Jul 5.
The announcement of Mr. Tyson's death came as a distinct shock to a wide circle of friends and business associates among whom he had lived so long, because it was not generally known that his ailment was likely to be fatal.
In fact, he had from time to time shown manifest improvement which had encouraged his friends to believe that he could get well he was at least likely to be able to go about his business and social activities as usual for some time to come. His condition, however, has been critical for several days before the end came.
Mr. Tyson was born in Harleysville September 26, 1859, the son of William R and Sarah Heckler Tyson and one of a family of six children, three boys and three girls.
He came to Lansdale some 35 years ago, entering the harness business and handling such side lines as are usually associated with that business. His shop at one time was in the Longaker building, corner of Walnut and Second streets. This business, after a prosperous career, he sold to F.D. Hill, now a resident of Philadelphia, in order to enter the mushroom raising business with the late John McKinley. This took place about 1902.
A little later Mr. Tyson pursued the same business alone and about 1911 je entered the real estate business which he followed actively up to the time he was stricken ill.
Nr, Tyson built his North Broad street residence about 1886. At that time Broad street did extend beyond Fourth street and, as he used to put it, his "home was a house in the woods" He never aspired to political office, though at one time, in Spanish War days, at the earnest solicitation of his friends, he ran for Burgess and was elected.
Mr. Tyson was married May 30, 1886, to Miss Elizabeth R. Boorse, a daughter of Squire John C. Boorse of Kulpsville. To them were born two children, Carroll B. and Gertrude M. both of whom survive. He is also survived by a brother, Andrew H. Tyson of North wales, and three sisters, Mrs. John H. Moyer of Lansdale, Mrs. S.T. Moyer of North Lansdale, and Mrs. E.W. Fulmer of Spring Mount. Mrs. Tyson passed away August 4, 1904.
Mr Tyson's son is now in France a member of the 19th U.S. engineers, his company having arrived there safely last week.
The funeral will take place at the house Friday and both services and the interment will be private. Friends may view the body on Friday from noon to 1 p.m.
