- PRESTON— Pierce (Pie) Roth, 52, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home, 840 Duke St., yesterday. Born in Waterloo Township, just outside Preston limits, Mr. Roth lived in Preston all his life with the exception of a few years in Buffalo, N.Y. and one year in Akron, Ohio. Commencing employment with the Grand River Railway on June 1, 1921, he had been employed by the railway for more than 30 years as a machinist at the car barns. A member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for the past 10 years, he was treasurer of Local 1578 of the Brotherhood for the past three years. Deceased was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Car Men of America for the past four years, serving as vice-president for two years. He was a member of St. Clement's RC Church. Surviving are his wife, Edith Huber; a daughter, Mrs. Eric (Gloria) Renard, London, Ont. and a son, Paul, Kitchener; two grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon, Preston, and Carl, Kitchener; two sisters, Mary and Minnie Roth, Preston. The body is resting at the Stager-Pass, Ltd. Funeral Home. The funeral will be held tomorrow with requiem high mass at St. Clement's R.C. Church at 9 a.m. Interment will be in the Preston RC Cemetery.
