Rhoads Opera House Fire
Boyertown, Pennsylvania


On January 13, 1908, 169 people perished as a direct result of the fire and one fireman lost his life on the way to the fire in a freak accident. The performance that night was a benefit performance sponsored by St. John's Lutheran Church of Boyertown. Local talent directed by Miss Edna M. Schoner of Pottsville were performing the play, "the Scottish Reformation", as written by Mrs. Harriet Earhart Monroe of Washington, DC.
