January 1903
------------

Thu 1 - New Years day. Things quiet for us. Grandmas went to Lefroy

Fri 2 - Quite mild. I went down to see Mr John Leonard and caught cold.
Addie was over.

Sat 3 - Sleet and snow. George drove Laura to Painswick

Sun 4 - Mild, George & Grandma went to church. League service

Mon 5 - Mild. We all have colds. Election

Tue 6 - Quiet. George hauling wood for Grandpa to Mr H Reynolds,
went to League.

Wed 7 - Mr. John Leonard died this eve at 8 o'clock

Thu 8 - Snowing. Quiet

Fri 9 - Very stormy. Mr Leonards funeral, large turnout, although
very rough.
Mr Jos Palmer died this morning. Father went down.

Sat 10 - Very cold. Olive came up so we fixed up the little house &
the funeral came up.
Mr Ben Palmer & Father stayed up & the rest came down here.

Sun 11 - Very cold and stormy. Funeral at 10 am.
Geo drove Mrs Palmer & two sisters to Allandale to go home.

Mon 12 - Stormy. Father and Uncle Ben went to the city. Lisle is quite sick.

Tue 13 - Quite cold. Men made a snow plow, girls went over to see Grandma.

Wed 14 - Lisle has been quite sick with cold. Washed.

Thu 15 - Men killed Grandpa's hog yesterday.
Mr Wall was over for tea this evening.

Fri 16 - Olive and May went back to Norway, nice mild day

Sat 17 - Very stormy. George and Grandma went to Barrie.

Sun 18 - Stormy. Anniversary of our tenth wedding day.
Grandma and George went to church opening at Lefroy. Stormed.

Mon 19 - Men at the wood. Things quiet

Tue 20 - Men at the wood.

Wed 21 - Men at the wood. I washed

Fri 23 - George went for chip, very very cold

Sat 24 - Still cold and stormy.

Sun 25 - Geo and I went to church, Mr. McKee preached and then we
went over to Webb's to tea.

Mon 26 - Milder. Men at the wood, father came up.

Tue 27 - Raining hard. Mrs Black moved. Grandma's 5 eggs

February 1903

Sun 1 - George and I went to Lefroy, Quarterly meeting
Mon 2 - Raining. Old Mrs Brown died and one of Edd Webbs little
boys from Scarlet Fever

Tue 3 - Grandmas were to Barrie. Roads are very good.
We went to League and there was a nice turn out.

Wed 4 - Men went to funeral of Mrs Brown and there is another child
of Mr Edd Webbs died, poor things.

Thu 5 - Very stormy all day. No school.
Convention at Craigvale this evening.

Fri 6 - Very nice weather. Geo and I went to the Convention this
afternoon, very good meeting and a nice crowd.

Sat 7 - Beautiful day, children were able to be out playing a great deal.
Geo went to the city this morning so we are alone. Another of Mrs
Webbs children buried which makes the third, very sad.

Sun 8 - Very very stormy. Just alone and is so lonely

Mon 9 - Very cold. Geo returned.

Tue 10 - Nice weather. We went to League.

Wed 11 - Nice weather. We went to League.
Mina Maneer walked down and visited us all day.
May came up to stay a while with us.

Thu 12 - Quite mild.
George drove me over to Adds and I stopped all day.

Fri 13 - Weather mild yet. George and I visited Mrs J Black this
afternoon, very snowy. Grandpa came from Toronto.

Sat 14 - Valentines day. Very cold. George went to Barrie for Grandpa.

Sun 15 - Alone all day. George and I went to Church in the evening
and heard Mr McKee preach.

Mon 16 - Things quiet

Tue 17 - Very stormy. George went to League.

Wed 18 - Very very stormy. Bella Nightingale & Mr Wethnell married.

Thu 19 - Quite cold. Things quiet.

Fri 20 - Beautiful day.
We all went to the church where the Sunday School children
had a sleigh and tea, had a very nice little time.

Sat 21 - Grandpa came back. Cow Fanny had a calf.

Sun 22 - We all went to Church. Mr. McKee preached a good sermon.
Jack Constable here for tea.

Mon 23 - Quite mild. George and Grandpa unloaded the things that
came up from Norway.
Roy, Rowena and Millie Black were over.

Tue 24 - We are all quite busy. Sammy Maneer was down all day.
Emma Dormage, Mr Green, and Mr Deering were down.

Sun 1 - Disagreeable George went to Sunday School

Mon 2 - Very busy. Men at the wood. Had board cutters, Mr I Rolands and Mr
Alexander 4 days.

Tue 3 - May went back this morning to the city and it is quite lonely without
her. Had missionary collections here.

Wed 4 - Very mild. Mr George Wallaces sale this PM.

Wilson Black's and Mr & Mrs Kneeshaw were down to Grandmas

Fri 6 - Men took furniture out of the little house at Craigvale this PM.
Mrs Jeff Wilson came to stay over night.

Sat 7 - Raining.

Sun 8 - Very mild weather. George and Grandma went to Church and heard Mr
McKee. I have been in all day.

Mon 9 - Very mild. George helping Tom Nightingale to butcher.
We were over to help Grandmas quilt.

Tue 10 - Raining. Nurnie Maneer walked down.
No one went to League as it is too wet.

Wed 11 - Men at the wood. Sammy (Maneer) came at noon to help
George, so they are busy.

Thu 12 - Men busy.

Fri 13 - Very mild. Lisle has a very bad cold but otherwise we are all happy.

Sat 14 - Grandpa went to Toronto

Sun 15 - Still mild. George, Laura, Ethel and I went to church and
heard Mrs Owen.

Mon 16 - Laura helped me wash.

Tue 17 - Got flour from Mr Chantler, 150 lbs.

Wed 18 - George & I were over to Addie's who is quite miserable

Thu 19 - Addie's little baby was born this A.M. at 8 o'clock

Wed 25 - Sale of Mr John Leonards farm stock and implements.
Mary (Mary Mgt, 1867-1956, d/o John Maneer, 1826-1905, & Sarah Fife,
1836-1883) and R J Black were down for tea. Very windy and cold.

Sat 28 - Aunt Fanny came up to Adds.

Sun 29 - Grandma brought Add's baby over.

Wed 1 - 8 little pigs arrived and a ---- ----. I went to Adds.

Thu 2 - George is sick all week.

Mon 6 - Took fat steers away, they weighed 2600

Fri 10 - Good Friday, but everything is quiet

Sat 11 - Ethel went over to Adds to take her a fish and found her
improving nicely.

Sun 12 - Beautiful weather. Children are both sick with La Grippi

Mon 13 - George sowed some for first back on the hill

Tue 14 - Raining all day. George took me up to the store and Mr Browns

Wed 15 - Went to Barrie

Thu 16 - Men busy sowing.

Fri 17 - Windy. George busy sowing. Ethel and I house cleaned the pantry.

Sat 18 - Very busy

Sun 19 - George and I went to Church with the children.

Thu 23 - Lisle's birthday, men very busy seeding.

Fri 24 - Lizzie Cross & Mrs. Gibson were at Grandmas for tea

Sat 25 - Grandma & Lisle went to Barrie

Sun 26 - Did not go to church, but went over to Addies, she is improving.

Mon 27 - Men busy

Tue 28 - Very high winds

Wed 29 - Aunt Fanny went home.

Thu 30 - A terrible wind and dust storm, never was so bad.

Sat 2 - Men finished seeding

Sun 3 - Raining all day. Grandma, George & I went to Quarterly
Meeting, had a good time.

Tue 12 - We are busy house cleaning.
May came up to stay awhile to get strong.
Grandpa also come back.

August: Kept house. I am not well.
Olive came up on the 11th and stopped 3 weeks. Then she
has started to Model school.

Tue 1 - Men busy ploughing and me busy sewing.

Sat 5 - Grandma and I went to Barrie and tomatoes were 25 ct & peaches 50

Sun 6 - Mr. McKee preached a fine sermon, we were all there.

April 1904
----------

Fri 1 - Roads have been and are very bad.
Men were out digging yesterday. Now it is raining all day. Aunt Fanny
has been up a week over at Adds who is very poorly. Good Friday.

Sat 2 - Windy and cold. Grandpa went to Barrie on the train.
George went to Stroud. Eggs are 19 ct per doz

Sun 3 - Easter Sunday. Nice but cold wind. Grandpa Young walked over to Adds.
Roads are almost impassible for horses. George walked to Church in the
evening and Miss Williams preached and special meetings are to be
continued this week. Mr James Mathers died this PM.

Mon 4 - Snow going very gradually. Grandpa came back from Toronto

Tue 5 - Funeral of Mr. Mathers at Churchill.
George went to meeting this evening and the roads are very bad.

Wed 6 - Warmer. Sammy Maneer came to help George cut wood.
We were over to Grandmas.

Thu 7 - Cloudy weather. Men busy and women too.

Fri 8 - Meetings going on every night but it is raining hard. Boys are very
busy at the wood. Sat 9 - Foggy and raining. Sammy (Maneer) went home.

Sun 10 - Keeps cold. Grandma and Geo went to church and Miss
Williams preached and Geo walked up in the evening

Mon 11 - George went to Stroud and got Grandmas barrel of sugar.
Sammy is helping at the wood.
We sent to Eatons for goods. Opened front door.

Tue 12 - Sammy went up to afternoon service and George went this evening.
Weather keeps cold and stormy.

Wed 13 - Boys at the wood very hard.

Thu 14 - Sammy (Maneer) went to afternoon service but George did not go. Cold
wind all day. Having very good meetings at the church.

Fri 15 - Boys busy at the wood. The weather keeps very cold.
Boys tapped 8 trees for sap.

Sat 16 - Very cold wind. Grandma went to see Laura who is quite sick.
I kept Maurice while she was away.

Sun 17 - George and Ethel went to church and Miss Williams preached.
The meetings will be continued all week. Mon 18 - Nice bright day.
Men picking stones so that is the first to be in the fields.

Tue 19 - Ground covered with snow and quite stormy.
Men in the granary boiling sap.

Wed 20 - Olives birthday

Thu 21 - Nice weather. A son to Mr & Mrs R Webb. Grandma is over.
Men cleaning grave.

Fri 22 - Boiling sap all day.

Sat 23 - Lisles birthday passed quiet. Sammy here splitting wood

Sun 24 - I am not very well. Ellen here.

Mon 25 - Funeral of Mrs W Leonard. Men began plowing

Tue 26 - Beautiful spring day. Lizzie Cross and her father came out, and then
went to Lefroy. Sammy came this A.M. & finished splitting our wood.

Wed 27 - Aunt Ellen is still here and men are very busy getting ready.

Thu 28 - Grandma went over to see Addies baby is a week old today.

Fri 29 - Raining and dull all day. Men very busy plowing.

Sat 30 - Still very dull and damp. No seeding done yet.
We are just choring around.

Sun 1 - Quarterly Meeting at Stroud. Grandma and Grandpa went and
there was a big turn out. Aunt Fanny came over a while and
Mrs Nightingale called to see me.

Mon 2 - Things very quiet. Men busy.

Tue 3 - Things very quiet. Men busy.

Wed 4 - Funeral of the late J Reynolds who was killed on the railroad, very
large funeral too.

Thu 5 - Mrs W Webb walked down to see Aunt Ellen.

Fri 6 - Things very quiet. Men busy seeding.

Sat 7 - Things very quiet. Men busy seeding.

Sun 8 - Beautiful weather only warm. Old Mr Nightingale very sick.
Geo took Aunt Ellen home for a while

Mon 9 - Raining. Aunt Ellen washed. Very windy and turning cold.

Tue 10 - Uncle George (George Arthur Maneer) came to fix the pump. All well.

Wed 11 - Cold. Grandma & Aunt Ellen went to see Mr Nightingale

Thu 12 - Mr Nightingale died this evening.

Fri 13 - Add drove over herself. Men very busy.

Sat 14 - Raining nearly all day. Funeral Mrs P M - Just Grandpa went.

Sun 15 - George took Aunt Ellen home, turned quite cold.

Mon 16 - Men finished seeding.

Wed 18 - spys $1.75 75 ct & 80 ct

Thu 19 - Grandpa selling apples & potatoes.

Fri 20 - Aunt Fanny came over to visit before going home.

Sat 21 - Beautiful weather. Aunt Fanny helped me.

Sun 22 - Everything quiet. No one went to Church.

Mon 23 - Raining

Tue 24 - Grandma & Aunt Fanny went to see Uncle Joe Young who is very feeble.
Aunt Ellen came back.

Thu 26 - We moved out the cooking stove.

Sat 28 - Everything quiet

Sun 29 - Baby Boy born at 2 o'clock. All pretty well.

Mon 30 - George planted our potatoes.

Wed 1 - Funeral of Gord Birnie. Grandma & George went to Barrie.

Thu 2 - George helped Jim Latimore move barn.

- I have missed a lot here

- Aunt Ellen stopped two weeks with me and then I got along myself.

- Baby is doing very nicely, gave him milk in the bottle when he was three weeks
old and then it disagreed with him after one month & a half - so feed him
Arrowroot Biscuit.

- I put short clothes on him at 3-1/2 months.

- Olive and May came on the 10th of August. Olive stayed
three weeks and they went to Bruce Mines.

- May is here yet onto the 18th of Sep.

- We threshed our Alsite while Olive was here and had 9-1/2 bags.

- Fred Orchard was buried on the 13th of Sep.

Sep 18 - Raining and dull.

Sep 23 - How can I write what happened on this day, our dear little
Murray was taken away from us.

Dec 4 - Another sad day. (Lisle died)

January 1905
------------

Jan 1 - New Years day.
We are very lonely, just four weeks today since dear little Lisle went
from us. Olive and May are here and Grandpa and Grandma were over for
dinner, it is very icy but mild. Add drove over.

Jan 2 - Olive has gone back to Bruce Mines, we shall miss her. Uncle (David)
and Aunt (Eliz Sophia Maneer) Hunter, Uncle Nicholas (Maneer) and
Uncle William (Maneer) came down for dinner. Mr Beynon (preacher)
called.

Jan 3 - Things are quiet. Men are getting some wood out

Jan 4 - Roads are good. May and I drove over to Add's and got along nicely.
Just a month to-day. Sometimes the house seems so empty that I feel
like running away. Geo and Grandma went to church.

Jan 5 - We are very quiet. Men butchered five pigs.

Jan 6 - Storming and quite cold.
May and I went to help Grandma tie a quilt.

Jan 8 - George and I went to church to hear Mr Beymon and it is so stormy.
May, Willie and I walked over to Grandmas and the snow is so deep.

Jan 9 - May birthday, we were busy making headcheese, sausage etc.

Jan 10 - Quite cold and stormy. We washed.
George and May went for the mail.

Jan 11 - Had our old ducks for dinner.

May and I drove to Stroud and called on Mrs Beymon and Mr Wm Webb, and
it is storming furiously.

Jan 12 - Oh it keeps so cold. George walked to meeting this evening.

Jan 13 - Very nice day. May and Willie went to the bush and made snow house
And then we all had tea at Grandmas. Geo and May & I went to meeting
at Stroud. There were quite a number out.

Jan 14 - Bitter cold. Things are very quiet.

Jan 15 - Quite stormy. George, May and I went to church to hear Mr Beynon
preach. There were quite a number out and I enjoyed the service,
only it makes me sad and lonely. George and May have gone this ev.

Jan 16 - Weather is milder. George and I went to church.

Jan 17 - George went for chop and to school meeting at night

Jan 18 - Anniversary of our wedding. 12 years married and this last one has
been full of sorrow, we are very lonely, went to R J Blacks.

Jan 19 - Quite mild. Mrs W Ferrell visited us all day and George went to
service at night.

Jan 20 - May, Willie and I went for a walk and then have made a snow house.
Geo and May went to service and Mr Walkom came over to spend the
evening.

Jan 21 - Grandma went to Barrie to see Mrs Arthur who is very low, but she did
not see her. George went to funeral of old Mrs Missell Booth up to the
12th line.

Jan 23 - Very cold. Things are very quiet. George went over to Mr Cowans so he
took May and I to see Webbs this evening. They are all well.

Jan 24 - Quite stormy. I went to Barrie on the train as it was cheap fare.
Uncle Cross and Lizzie were out.

Jan 25 - Election today. George was over at the hall all day and
Ross was defeated and Whitney was elected.

Jan 26 - Very very cold. George started to Stroud but could not get as the
roads are getting very bad.

Jan 27 - George took Ballot Box to Thornton and got back about 2 o'clock.

Sunday School at Stroud are having their social but we did not go.

Jan 28 - Very cold. George went for the mail and we all had tea at Grandmas.

Jan 29 - Grandma, George and & I went to hear Mr. Beynon preach and May went
with Tillie to the Presbyterian Church. Dear little Murray would have
been 8 months old today.

Jan 30 - Uncle & Auntie Grose were up to-day and I was over to see them.

Jan 31 - Quite stormy. Mrs Peacock & Aunt Ellen were down to spend the
afternoon and Auntie was over. George went to League and there was
election of officers. Mr Harvey Hughes was elected President

February 1905

Feb 1 - Cold. Lavina was down to wash and Geo took me to the store
to do some shopping. Butter 20 ct

Feb 2 - Quite cold. Uncle David (Hunter) & Aunt (Eliz S Maneer)
came down to stay a few days so we are not lonely.

Feb 3 - Oh we are all quiet and I feel so lonely at times.

February 1905

Feb 4 - George went to Barrie & Grandpa took Uncle & Aunt to Stroud
so we are alone again. Old Mrs Sheppard died, 2 months.

Feb 5 - All quiet. Grandma & George went to Lefroy Quarterly
Meeting and we have Maurice.

Feb 6 - Stormy. George, May and I went down and had tea at Mrs McCullough
with Mr & Mrs W Black, Mr & Mrs Kell of Cherry Creek.
Roads are not very good.

Feb 7 - Quite cold and no one went to the League so we are quiet.

Feb 8 - Cold. Cold.

Feb 9 - Still cold. We went up to our open meeting of the Grange at the hall
and we had lots of laughing.

Feb 10 - Storming like fun, so we could not go to the parlor social
at Mr John Hughes, but I guess they will postpone it.
The roads will be blocked.

Feb 11 - Men are digging the roads so things are very quiet.

Feb 12 - Storming yet so no one went to Church.
Grandpa went to Adds but we were home all day.

Feb 13 - Storming yet.

Feb 14 - Storming & very cold.
George went for the mail but the roads are full.

Feb 15 - Very cold. We are all well and trying to keep warm. May & Willie & I
went to Grandma's and May got her nose nipped with the frost.
Charlie Neely came over so they are playing crokinole.

Feb 16 - Thursday. Oh so cold. Men are digging out the roads and we are
trying to keep warm and entertain ourselves by reading, embroidering &
doing work.

Feb 17 - A little milder.
We must have patience and some sweet day we shall go out. George went
to the mill and it stormed very hard and was late getting home.

Feb 18 - Storming again. No use digging out the roads.

George walked for the mail and things are very quiet.

Feb 19 - Beautiful sunshining day, but the roads are impassable for horses so
George walked out to Stroud, but the attendance there will be slim I
presume. George got back from service and there were about forty
there with Mr Beynon as speaker, so we are all very quiet.

Feb 20 - Men are digging out the roads and in the evening too.
George, May and I went up to the parlor social at Mr John Hughes. The
roads were not very good, however we did not get tipped out and we had
a very nice time, proceeds amounted to $17.08

Feb 21 - Quite mild. George took wood to Stroud school.

Feb 22 - Mild but stormy. Mr Robt Redfern had a sale of all his things so May
and I went over to Webbs with George. Mrs Armstrong was there and we
had a very nice time but I came home with a severe headache.
The roads are very bad.

Feb 23 - Mild. Mr & Mrs Williamson (Nellie Young) came to Grandma's today, so
they will be over tomorrow. George has gone to Grange meeting, so I
must write some letters.

Feb 24 - Mild. Mr/Mrs Williamson came for dinner and the afternoon and then
went over to Adds.
Mr Allan called and had dinner. We went for a drive.

Feb 25 - Men are trying to get some wood.
George went for the mail and got parcel from Eatons.

Feb 26 - George, Grandma & I went to Church and, Oh my, it did storm
like fury. Mr Beynon preached a splendid sermon about being "good".

Feb 27 - Well we washed and just after finishing dinner Uncle William Maneer &
Walter Hunter of Manitoba came in so we then got them some.
We all went to Craigvale with the sleigh in the evening.

Feb 28 - Quite stormy.
Fred Martin is having a sale today so George has gone to keep books
for him. Grandma was over for tea.

March 1905
----------

Wed 1 - Beautiful day.
Grange Meeting at Stroud so George went and we went to Uncle William
Maneer's for tea. The roads are quite bad.

Thu 2 - Weather fine. We all went to Lefroy with the cutter and had a very
nice visit. The roads are not very good. I feel very lonely and
despondent

Fri 3 - Things are quiet. Grandma is not feeling very well so we
have Maurice over.

Sat 4 - It seems like six months instead of three since dear little Lisle left
us. Oh how we do miss her, every day, every hour, all the time she is
in my mind. I try not to let the others know but it is hard to be
cheerful all the time.

Sun 5 - George and May have gone to Church as George is to help at the
service. Grandpa & Grandma have gone to Webbs so we have Maurice
here, he is sleeping now.

Mon 6 - Nice weather. We all went to the service at the parsonage.
Took the sleigh and the pitch-holes are so bad. There was
a good crowd and they made $20. so we are all tired.

Tue 7 - Milder. Sammy Maneer came down for dinner and we all had a
game of crokinole.

Wed 8 - Things are quiet.

Thu 9 - Things are quiet till evening and then we went to the hall,
Grange Meeting. There was a debate. Dissolved that Single
Life is preferable to Married Life with E Webb & J Latimer
as captains and Mrs W Young & Mrs W Goodfellow as critics.
Married side won by one point.

Fri 10 - Cold. Roy & Rowena Black were down.
The Pitch holes are very bad.

Sat 11 - Nice weather. Aunt Ellen Wilson very ill.

Sun 12 - Grandma & George went to church but we did not get out all day.

Mon 13 - Beautiful day. Things quiet.

Tue 14 - Beautiful day. Grandma, Willie & I went to Barrie on the
train and had dinner with Lizzie Cross.

Wed 15 - Aunt Ellen Grose has not been well so Grandma's have gone down to see
her but she is better. Mina Maneer (d/o Wm) came down so we went to
prayer meeting with her and enjoyed the meeting.
Mrs Fred Birmin and Ethel Johnston called.

Thu 16 - Quite cold. We called on Mrs Nightingale this afternoon.
Fri 17 - Things are very quiet.

Aunt Ellen Wilson is very low with Pneumonia down at King.
I am fixing May's coat.

Sat 18 - Raining nearly all day so we are quiet. Grandmas were over for tea.
George walked for mail as the roads are bad.

Sun 19 - George and I went to Stroud in the morning and heard Jack Peacock.
George and May then walked to Craigvale church in the afternoon.

Mon 20 - March has been so nice this far. May and I washed and did things
generally and then had tea with Mrs W Young

Tue 21 - Roads getting so bad. George walked to League and was quite exhausted,
the roads being so bad. I went to mill.

Wed 22 - George & I went over to Adds. I guess for the last cutter ride for
the roads are so bad. Mrs Scott and children were down this afternoon.
Mr W Woolman drove them down.

Thu 23 - Things are quiet. Aunt Ellen Wilson is some better.
Opened front door.

Fri 24 - Mr Wallace's sale is today but the roads are impassible for horses.
There was quite a number there and things sold very well. Uncle Cross
was out.

Sat 25 - Grandpa and George went to Barrie and purchased the Reynolds estate so
there will be a change around here this fall. I expect they will move
to Stroud and we shall move across the road. I would rather have gone
farther away from the scene of so much sorrow but fate has decreed it
otherwise so it must be all right. I am indisposed. (pregnant)

Sun 26 - Gloomy weather and roads very bad so we are in all day.
The League is to take the service at Stroud to night, but I
guess it will be poorly attended.
Mon 27 - Beautiful weather & snow going very rapidly.

Tue 28 - Thunder & lightning very pronounced, rained heavily and roads are so
bad but we will soon have nice weather I guess. May walked for mail.

Wed 29 - Had buggy to Stroud for first, of course they are not good
but passable, headache.

Thu 30 - Nothing happened worth mentioning.

Fri 31 - Lovely weather so George and I went to Stroud with buggy and
the roads are drying up nicely. Butter 22 ct Eggs 15

Sat 1 - April Fools day. Things passed quietly. Grandpa went over to see how
Adds are and they are quite well. We went to Grandpa for tea.

Sun 2 - Took democrat to Church and May kept house. Dr Evans took the
service but there were not many out. May, Tillie, and I walked
to Craigvale Church and walking is a trifle muddy.

Mon 3 - Very windy. We washed and did a lot of work generally.
Toni Foster started to work.

Tue 4 - Quite mild. Eva Wallace was down to visit this afternoon and
May and I went a piece with her and what do you, our lantern
went out and left us to walk in the mud.

Wed 5 - Beautiful day, so May & I drove to Stroud and went to Ladies
Aid at Mrs Neelands, called at Mrs Beymons and Mrs Scotts, but
did not stay any place for tea. Mrs & Mr Tom were over to
spend the evening but Mr Walkom was too busy.
Thu 6 - Things quiet. Barrie people were out.

Fri 7 - I spent the day with Laura

Sat 8 - Things are very quiet.

Sun 9 - Little calf.
George, May and I went to Church and heard Mr Beynon.
After service we went out to see the resting place of our dear
children, oh dear, our hearts are very, very sad and lonely.

Mon 10 - Men are doing a little on the fields and the roads are drying
up nicely, but April has not been nearly as nice as March.

Tue 11 - Cold. May and I tied a quilt & May walked to Craigvale for the mail.

Wed 12 - Grandma & Tillie helped us tie a quilt and George, May and Willie
tapped 8 trees, so we shall have some maple syrup maybe.

Thu 13 - Things are much the same.
May walked for the mail and we all went to the hall and had a
debate on Resolved that City Life is preferable to Country
Life and the Country side made things so plain that the City
side were beaten badly. May was on the losing side.

Fri 14 - It has been quite cold and windy and men can not do much at seeding.

Sat 15 - Quite a snow storm and cold.
Grandma went to Barrie on the train and we kept Maurice.
Sap is not running very well as it is too cold.

Sun 16 - Ground white with snow. Geo, Willie and I went and heard
Mr Gilpin preach, who did very well. Then George and May and I went in
the evening and Mr Kearn of Barrie preached to a full house.

Mon 17 - The weather keeps so cold and windy.
The men cannot do anything in the fields.

Tue 18 - We washed and did things up generally.
Mr School Teacher called last evening.

Wed 19 - Windy, oh yes, blow one away if they were not very heavy.
We gathered up a lot of sap so we must boil it some of
these days, but May and I intend going to Barrie tomorrow.

Thu 20 - Well we went to Barrie. Beautiful day. We had dinner with
Mrs Palb and then got our Easter bonnets.

Fri 21 - Good Friday and it is winterlike too. Ground covered with snow and
storming nearly all day. Uncle Cross and Annie Stewart were out.

Sat 22 - Things are quiet. Men cannot go on the fields so George took me to the
store, then I stopped at Mrs Cott's for tea.
Butter is 23 ct and eggs 12-1/2

Sun 23 - Easter Sunday. Nice bright and a birthday to be spent in a happy home
above. We must not be so sad, but the recollections of other other
birthdays makes us long to clasp the hand of that precious one.

Mon 24 - Surely this week will be more like spring.
Things are quite windy. Grandma went to visit at Stroud this
afternoon and we kept Maurice. Tue 25 - Men are busy seeding.

Wed 26 - May, Willie and I walked over to Adds this morning and May
and Willie stayed all night and Cornillia came home with me.

Thu 27 - They came home from Adds and were pretty tired too.
Tillie has left Grandmas for all time to come.

Fri 28 - May and Erma went for the mail.

Sat 29 - Oh so windy. May, Willie, Erma Carmilla got some lovely
flowers at the bush. George walked for the mail.

Sun 30 - Mrs. Owen took the service this morning and Rob and Add
came and took the girls home.

Mon 1 - Cold and a little snow and it is such windy weather.

Tue 2 - Raining and cold. The men went up to Grandpas new house and
have started to tidy up.

Wed 3 - Raining hard nearly all day, and heavy thunder.

Thu 4 - We have been doing a little housecleaning but shall not do much this
spring as we intend to move in the fall.
A son to Mr and Mrs Cathcart.

Fri 5 - May has been here five months today and is quite pale. We
cleaned the sitting room and consequently are very tired.

Sat 6 - Men are nearly done seeding, but the weather is very unfavorable.

Sun 7 - Quarterly meeting at Stroud. Grandma, George & I went. There were not
many there as it was raining. Mr Beynon preached. May and I walked to
Craigvale, but were late so went to Mrs Scott's

Mon 8 - I went to Laura's

Wed 10 - Very wet weather

Thu 11 - Grange meeting, not many out

Sun 14 - George and I went to church and Charlie Hunter preached.
Then we all went to Ada's

Mon 15 - The weather keeps so cold

Tue 16 - Cold and wet. Mason of Stroud had a supper for some visitors,
so the Ladies Aid got it up and I think it was a success
financially any way. They made $33. clear money.

Wed 17 - May and I went to Stroud to the store and to get some of our
dishes. I was in to see Mrs P Wice and, oh dear! the poor
little creature, is so small and happy.

Thu 18 - Windy and cold. Add brought Camilla and Harold over to stay a few
days. Miss Treek and Lizzie were out.

Fri 19 - Working away. George helped Mr Black move their barn all
day and yesterday afternoon.

Sat 20 - George and I went to Barrie and were nearly perished with
the cold, he bought 4 little pigs at $5 a pair

Sun 21 - Beautiful weather. No one went to service this morning so George, May
and I went to hear Mr Nankiville at St Pauls and liked him very much.

Mon 22 - Windy and cold. We are getting things ready for May to go
away in the morning.

Tue 23 - May went to Toronto this morning, so we are lonely since.
Add also came and took her children home, so I shall miss them all.

Wed 24 - Victoria day. We went to funeral of J W Sprouls baby.

Thu 25 - Moved our stoves & planted potatoes & beans.

Fri 26 - May came home. I went to store and got box of raisins

Sat 27 - Things quiet.

Sun 28 - George and May went to Craigvale Church and Mr Walkom called

Tue 30 - We called on Mrs. Wallaces

Thu 1 - Things quiet. Men are working at Stroud house.

Fri 2 - Mrs Farmer and Mrs Wm Goodfellow visited here.
George helped raise Mr Black barn.

Sat 3 - We all went to Stroud with luncheon for the men who are moving
Grandpas house. My hand is quite sore.

Sun 4 - George and May went to church. I did not go as my hand is sore.
Robt and Mary came down to see me.

Mon 5 - Raining. Men away all day

Tue 6 - Raining all day

Wed 7 - Raining yet

Thu 8 - My hand is very sore. George and May went over to the hall to The
Debate. The subject was resolved. That ones inherited nature has
more to do with ones character than ones environment. May was captain
for the affirmative side and her side were the victors. Mr and Mrs
Scott drove down for a drive.

Fri 9 - The men are digging the cellar at Stroud and do not come
home for their dinner.

Sat 10 - Raining and quite wet.
George drove me to the store and then we cut some grass.

Sun 11 - As there was no service at our church we all went over to the Baptist
church and heard M Pearce preach. We like him very much. His subject
was Redeeming the time or Buying up our opportunities. He said we
must seize every change to do good for it will just come once to us
and we have just the short time from the cradle to the grave.

Sat 1 - We went over to see Aunt Addies, had a nice drive.

Tue 3 - We all went to Garden Party and had a nice time.
Things are quiet all this week.

Sat 8 - Raining nearly all the time, and the men cannot get hay done.

Sun 9 - George, Willie and I went to church and a little scotchman preached,
we liked him very well. We then went to Mary's for dinner.

Sun 13 - Things are going on very quietly.
Men are busy at the harvest. They have fall wheat all in, and nearly
all the oats and barley cut. Olive and I have been picking lots of
berries, we went up to Walley Herrels on the 7th and picked 23 lbs and
that was all the places we went besides our own place to pick berries.
Harold Webb got his arm broken yesterday the 12th, so we went over to
see him and Olive stopped with them.
Olive went away the last day of this month.

Sep 25 - 26th - Grandma's moved Monday and Tuesday and we painted on
Wednesday and moved Thursday and Friday and so all are
pretty tired, but are glad as we have had nice weather.

Sun 15 - We have just been getting settled and are getting things a little
better. Grandma's are quite comfortable too. We all had dinner there
to-day and now it is raining.

- Things have been going on much the same.

- We kept Christmas this year.

- Had Aunt Addies all over.

Grandpa and Grandma Young down for tea.
Had a tree upstairs and altogether we had a nice time.

- January has been a very mild month, no snow to speak of.
On the last day of this month the men brought in this corner field of clover.
Mr Will Nightingale, his Mary, Mr Tom, Sam Maneer, the two Grandpas all
helped, as they rushed it in. A lot of people came in the afternoon.
Mrs Will Guest, Mrs Torie, Laura and her Mother, Ed Nightingale
And May has a swollen face, so she was behind the scene.
Aunt Addies baby was born on the 14th of this month and she and
babe are doing nicely.

- The Ladies Aid of our church have two socials, one at Mr H Pratts,
to which George and May went. The other at Mr Wilson Black.
George and I went and now the church is to start special services
we hope much good will be done.

Thu 1 - More like winter than has been. Grandpa, Grandma and Maurice drove
down and then went to Add's, but went home early as it is storming.
Fri 2 - Bitter cold. Farmer's Institute meeting at Stroud and
George was there. 6 eggs
Sat 3 - Not quite so cold.
We are enjoying our warm house this winter. About the middle
of last month our hens gave us an egg.

Nov 4 - About a week ago there was quite a fall of snow which made everyone
think of winter. The men finished the turnips last evening and Jack
has two weeks yet to put in. The fall ploughing will soon be done and
there is a little more threshing to do. Bible Society meeting at
Craigvale this eve so George, Olive, & May have gone and Willie and I
are holding the fort. He has quite a severe cold on his chest so I
have applied remedies externally and internally and put him to bed.
George and I were at Sunday School this morning and there were a nice
number there and had a good class meeting. Another meeting was held at
Cherry Creek as the hall at Stroud was so small, but there will soon
be a new church.

"My father (Wm Samuel Young) told me about his mother (Alice) dying.
She died two days before Christmas. The funeral was held in the homestead.
They left him at home as they took his mother to the graveyard, on a sleigh drawn by horses. He said he sat in the front window and watched her go down the lane, and here he was at home. It was so sad."
