NILES -- Friends of LaVoid I. "Curly" McKibbin Sr. may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. (Michigan time) today at Halbritter Funeral Home. The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Niles with the Rev. Carl W. Bassett officiating. Burial and a military graveside service will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.
Mr. McKibbin, 69, of Redfield Road, died in his home at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday (April 15, 2003).He was born in Elkhart on Oct. 3, 1933, to DeWayne D. and Lois R. (Dettweiler) McKibbin, graduated from Brandywine High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
On July 14, 1956, he married Dorris E. Schaen in Elkhart. She survives with two daughters, Mrs. Kelly (Lois) McKibbin-Cooper of Niles and Mrs. Thomas (Esther) Nowicki of Mishawaka; one son, LaVoid I. Jr. (Kris) of Dowagiac; one grandson; four brothers, Ralph of Homosassa Springs, Fla., Benjamin of Sarasota, Fla., Arthur of Virginia and DeWayne D. Jr. of Bradenton, Fla.; and two sisters, Grace Christie of Sarasota and Lola Poneleit of Bradenton. One sister, Leota Davis, is deceased.
Mr. McKibbin had worked for Bendix Trucking and later at Mohawk Flush Doors. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Teamsters Local 364 and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
