"Pearl Melia, 90 Passed away on November 9, 1997 at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland, California.
Pearl was born June 30, 1907 on a farm near Susanak, Kansas (in Barton County) to Ella (Brinson) Love and Crandall F. Love. At the age of 3, she moved to a farm between Clearwater and Conway Springs, Kansas with her parents and twin brothers. She attended a rural school there and graduated from Conway Springs High School.(note: she"boarded" with another family in Conway Springs to finish high school) in 1924. She then attended Emporia State College, completing her education and receiving a Life Teaching Certificate. She was a member of Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority at Emporia. After College, she returned to Conway Springs where she taught country school and later second grade in the Conway public school system. After the death of Elmer Melia in 1981, Pearl moved to California to be near her family, living first in Rancho Cucamonga and later in Upland, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers. She is survived by her son Crandall Melia and his wife Charlotte of Upland and Daughter Elaine Tisler of Ontario, California, as well as 5 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering at the Minnis Mortuary in Bucklin on Saturday from 1:00 pm until 3:00pm on November 15, 1997, where her many local friends are invited to call and share with her family there from California, Texas and Missouri. Following will be a short grave side service at the Bucklin cemetery with subsequent interment at the side of her husband Elmer at the family plot.
