HORST, Rev. Osiah W. - Died peacefully at home with family around him on July 4 at the age of 85. He will be remembered with love and gratitude by his wife, Fern (nee Dettwiler); daughter, Martha Drouillard (Dave); sons, Glen (Patricia) and Roger (Carolyn) and daughter-in-law, Marjorie Horst (Elwood); twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, and thirty-two additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he embraced in his affections and prayers. He is also mourned by his sister, Lydia Ann Bauman (Howard); brother, Simeon (Jean); sisters-in-law, Leeta Horst (Melvin) and Gladys Olley (Victor), and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Annie Horst; sisters, Lovina Wraase and Annie Bauman; brothers, Samuel, Moses, George, Elias, Daniel, Nathaniel and Aaron and son, Wayne. Osiah was born in Florida and grew up north of Elmira, Ontario. After Alternative Service assignments, he married Fern in 1945. In 1946 he was ordained at the Mannheim Mennonite Church and began 18 years of ministry there. In 1964 he began a twenty-year ministry at Danforth Mennonite Church. From 1970-79 he was employed part time at Dellcrest Children's Centre and in 1977 completed a Social Service course through Seneca College. A highlight of his ministry at Danforth was the development of the St. Clair O'Connor Community and his chaplaincy there from 1984-94 completed a life-time of pastoral service.The family wishes to thank the many people who have supported Osiah and Fern in his time of illness, particularly those from the Danforth Mennonite Church and Masarypark Homes.Friends will be received at the Giffen-Mack "Danforth" Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 2570 Danforth Avenue (at Main St. subway), Toronto on Wednesday, July 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service at the Danforth Mennonite Church, 2174 Danforth Avenue, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 7. Interment and graveside service at Mannheim Mennonite Cemetery at 3 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Danforth Mennonite Church, St. Clair O'Connor Inc., or Conrad Grebel University College's Graduate Student Support Fund.
